Communication & Leadership Award

Maja Mataric
Roboticist, USC Robotics Research Lab

Maja Mataric, PhD

Founder’s District is pleased to announce the Fall 2016 Communication And Leadership Award recipient, Maja Mataric, PhD.

Affiliated with the USC Robotics Research Lab, Dr. Mataric pioneered “socially assistive robotics” a decade ago. She taught them to play with autistic children and remind stroke patients to exercise. Maja Mataric decided to use her knowledge in the most worthwhile manner – to help others face everyday difficulties.

One of her goals is to inspire young girls to join the tech world. Living in Los Angeles, she recently judged the Next MacGyver contest for a TV show proposal starring female engineers.

Her area of development is fascinating as it relates to communication. She has been featured in The New Yorker and Popular Science magazines, and received an award from the LA Times in 2010. She volunteers her time with STEM education, and received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics, and Engineering Mentoring.
