WOODY, THE WANDERING GAVEL
WOODY the Wandering & WOODETTE the Ambling Gavels

woody-gavelNeed to spice up your club meetings? Or take your club meetings to the next level? Or better yet, do you want to show off your club and earn a prize at the same time?

Announcing - The Wandering and the Ambling Gavels Game!

Fellow Toastmasters, we at the Lt Governor of Education and Training office invite you to play Capture Woody, the Wandering Gavel and Woodette, the Ambling Gavel game!

The objectives of the game are simple:

1. Encourage joint Toastmaster Club meetings

2. Share talents and knowledge of communication and leadership

3. Extend the fellowship of Toastmasters

See where they are now!

Here is how it works:

1.  Two (or more) Toastmaster members, from the same club, visit the target Club that currently holds Woody and/or Woodette. Please call ahead to the club VPE and announce your intent to visit and offer to participate in the program (Current club will be posted on Founders District Website).

2. The visiting Toastmasters must participate in the target club’s meeting in some way.

3.  The visiting Toastmasters ‘Capture’ Woody and Woodette at the end of the meeting.  They take the captured Traveling Gavel(s) for display at their home club’s next meeting.

4.  As soon as the Traveling Gavel(s) are captured, the visiting Toastmasters must announce Woody’s and/or Woodette's new place of residence to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it , DTM, District LGET,  to be updated on the website.

5.  The Traveling Gavel(s) will be displayed and used at each subsequent club meeting, or until they are captured by visiting Toastmasters from another club.

6.  Clubs may capture Woody and/or Woodette multiple times, but must allow two or more other clubs to capture Woody and/or Woodette in between their own captures.

7. Clubs cannot capture both Woody and Woodette from the same club within the same month. Clubs will need to wait until the following month to return to the host club to capture the other gavel.

8.  If another club approaches the new host club to capture the gavel and it is during the waiting period, the host club cannot delay or purposefully deny the visiting club the chance to capture their gavel.
9. If another club approaches the host club of the other gavel during the waiting period, that host club cannot delay or purposefully deny the visiting club the chance to capture their gavel.

The Reward, or Piece de Resistance:

-Win a $25 Gift Certificate good for purchases from the Toastmasters International supply catalog once you have captured Woody or Woodette.

(There will not be a swag bag award).

Where have Woody and Woodette Been?

Woody the Wandering Gavel was taken from ZotSpeak by members of Contrarians #909560 at UC Irvine.

How long will Woody stay with the Contrarians? The Contrarians boasted that, "We plan to keep it for 100 years :-) " All it takes is two members from your club to attend and participate at the current club's meeting in order to capture Woody.

Contact Contrarians to schedule your visit.

On Thursday, February 24, Woody the Wandering Gavel was captured by Tracy Matheny and Linda Jaeckels of Crystal Clear after an impressive 80 days at the BergenMeisters Toastmasters club.

Who will capture Woody next? How long will Woody stay in the City of Orange? Only you and your fellow club members can decide.

To follow the rules, it takes two members from your club to attend and participate at the current club's meeting in order to capture Woody.

Contact the VP of Education at Crystal Clear to schedule your visit.

BergenMeisters’ Club President Sheri Faulkner (left) successfully captures Woody, The Wandering Gavel, from Taboo’s Club President Nadine Nofziger and the watchful eyes of her feline attack cat during a pre-Christmas meeting on Monday, December 6, 2010.

In four short months Woody has traveled to seven clubs and Faulkner plotted with fellow Toastmaster member Michael Varma to make BergenMeisters location number eight.

The dynamic duo played by the rules: Two or more club members, from the same club, must visit and participate in current club's meeting. And participate they did. Faulkner wore two hats: grammarian and ah counter. Varma gave an impressive off-the-cuff speech in the spirit of the Taboo’s core values of speaking on controversial topics – usually sex, politics, and religion.

Woody, The Wandering Gavel, will no doubt be captured by another Toastmasters club. They are reminded to follow the Woody Rules posted onwww.FoundersDistrict.org.

"We did it!!!  ISD Toastmasters (585096 in Downey, CA) has captured Woody from the Contrarians.
Jamel Thomas and I attended the Contrarians meeting last night where Jamel spoke and I was the GE.  Additionally, we both participated in TT.  It was great fun. The Contrarians have a great club and they are a super nice and fun group."

ISD Toastmasters has now successfully “captured” Woodette!  She was “captured” by Richard Lopez, CC and Nick Curtis, both members of ISD Toastmasters, by attending the Edison Powerlines club meeting on Thursday, September 29th, from 11:45AM – 1:00PM, where they were scheduled for two roles on the Edison Powerlines club meeting agenda.
Success! Marie and Elaine from Eclectic Dialectics have captured Woody from Dynamic Forcemasters Club 587!  Eclectic Forcemasters now have both gavels in their possession!  Elaine says "we both answered table topics questions, Marie spoke as an evaluator and I participated as a grammarian and ah counter. It was a wonderful experience to attend a smaller, very intimate club with such experienced members. Thank you for having us!"
