Divison Governor Reports

Division G – The Grand Division

By HD Boesch, Division G Governoror

It’s all about the team. Area Governors, Assistant Area Governors, Division Chairs, Club Officers, and “ordinary” Club Members all work together to make our Division GRAND and have fun at the same time.

Our Area Governors, Lee Pound in G-1, Clement Pepe in G-2, Pam Rocke in G-3, John Maginnis in G-4, and Diane Restelli in G-5, together with their Assistant Area Governors Marion Boesch, Naz Namazi, and Darryl Tahirali, started with grand enthusiasm already in June visiting their future clubs; by mid-July all clubs had been visited. Isn’t this GRAND?

Though the new Area Governors got a hand from the outgoing Governors for the transition, we learned that handovers can be improved at the Area as well as at the Club level. For any new term at the Club, Area, and Division level, we will underscore even more in the future that it is an essential task of the outgoing officer to introduce and support his or her successor. There is a defined role for the Past Immediate President/Area Governor/Division Governor. And it may be that we have to remind one or two that he or she committed to this very important support by accepting the function at the beginning.

Together with Division F (Thanks, Edna Duffy) we offered a Make-Up training that was worthwhile for every officer and club member to attend. Again, it’s all about the team. And it was a grand team! The trainers—John Maginnis, President; Michael Heath, VP of Education; Alanda Dyer, VP of Marketing; Elizabeth Anderson, VP of Public Relations; Joan Laing, Treasurer; Lorinda Chard, Secretary; Richard Daugherty, Sergeant-at-Arms; and Dr. Diana Dee, Judges—did a GRAND job. Overall evaluation: 67% rated the training 5 (highest rate), 33% rated it 4. We trained 67 officers at that one make-up training. GRAND!

To put icing on the cake, four outstanding speakers presented educational sessions: Arvee Robinson, “Club Health”; John Barry, “Everyday Leadership”; Dr. R. Kent Jones, “Focusing on Leadership”; and Jeffrey Washington, “Evaluate to Motivate.” Every one of the 60 attendees left inspired. You may have noticed that three of the four speakers came from other Divisions. That proves the excellent support and team spirit in our District.

Many club members and club officers went the extra mile to make their clubs successful and, thus, the best place in the world to improve communication and leadership skills. I cannot name them all; thus, let’s congratulate our Division G Toastmaster of the Year, representing the Toastmaster spirit that drives our entire Division: Avis French from UniMasters. She is a role model of working “behind the scenes.”
