Advanced to Grow!
The Professional Speakers Club

by Jack Nichols, DTM,
Vice President Education and Training, Club 9

Have you ever felt you are one of the better speakers in your club and only go to help others grow? That may seem unfair. At times, it would fit most of us that have been in Toastmasters for more than 3 or 4 years. What you need is an advanced club that will challenge you to move your personal skills bar a little higher. We are lucky in Founder’s District because we have a few specialty or advanced clubs. These clubs normally meet only once a month and are not intended to replace your present club. In fact, they serve members best when they belong to the regular club and also the advanced club.

Club 9 is a premier advanced club of Founder’s District that serves members who want to be evaluated on longer speeches and advanced speakers that have accomplished most of the advanced manuals at least once.

Club 9 gives double the time for each evaluation, assigning one person to evaluate the speaker for content and another for delivery. This is harder than you think. Try the next time you evaluate a speaker to think of the delivery only and give the speaker 3 minutes of suggestions for growth.

“Advanced to Grow” is a motto Club 9 lives with. Not all members are advanced; however, they all have an interest in being advanced. Some think that you have to be professional now to join the Professional Speakers Club. Not so! What you need is a desire to be as professional in your skills as possible. We are all advancing to grow.

To reach people who want to Advance to Grow, Club 9 will host an Advanced Speechcraft, taught by those that have been working at the professional level for many years. Alfred Herzing, DTM, Past International President; H. Al Richardson, DTM, Past International Director; and Jack Nichols, DTM, current Co-Chair of Speakers’ Bureau, will be the main presenters with guests invited to share special presentations.

The Advanced Speechcraft will begin March 13 and will continue each 2nd and 4th Monday until May 22. You will have the best teaching possible and will be given advanced evaluations. When you have completed this program, you will be given a Certificate of Completion for an Advanced Speechcraft. And you will know you are that much closer to being professional. The cost of the Advanced Speechcraft will be applied to membership in Club 9 if you decide to join.

The Speechcraft will be held at Denny’s Restaurant, 600 Beach Blvd, Anaheim, (just North of Ball Rd.) from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Order dinner from the menu and have six great evenings of entertainment. Please contact Jack Nichols, DTM, 562-531-3990
