Founder's Newsletter
The March issue of the Founder’s will feature a new look! It will be
a 4-page, two color spread with an emphasis on the members from the members,
and not District reports. The change from a 12-page black/white spread to 4-pages
will save the District over $800 in printing costs. Currently we have 4,000
issues printed.
Bob Hudack and his Team are in the process of moving our web site to another host server. This move will save the District money. There are four people that are heavy users of the Founder’s email, and we are working to make the transition smooth.
It has been suggested by Bob, that we change the name from Web Site Coordinator to District Email and Web Service Coordinator. The idea is to highlight the fact that there are going to be District email accounts that need to be managed. Also, incoming District officers may need to have support offered to them.
Under the leadership of Matt Stern (Community Relations Chair), we have provided judges for ten community contests, including the Academic Decathlon, Rotary chapters, Lions clubs, and high schools. There is a small core group of judges that include Frank and Celly Adamo, and Avis French that are active. Many thanks to them for helping the community! In February and March there are six more contests that we hope to supply judges to so we need to expand the core group.
One area we need to work on is better preparation by contest coordinators. In several contests our judges experienced miscommunication by contest coordinators (missing or incomplete judging materials, and inadequate restroom facilities). Also, some contests were canceled due to lack of contestants. On the plus side, Rotary is very prepared and has established judging rules and contest checklists.
Ed Vaughn has taken YLP to new heights! He reports that since July 1, 2005, they have over 304 youths that have either completed the program or are in the process of completing it.
Mission Viejo High School boasts the largest number of students participating — 123. A very special thanks to coordinators Louise Hyland, and Norm and Frannie Stein for undertaking this huge task!
Three YLP Coordinators have been invited to attend the Advanced Leaders Training/ Club 6570 meeting in March. They will be acknowledged for their extraordinary contributions to youth; to share what makes them special, what works with, and to acknowledge all of our YLP Coordinators.
July 8-31 is the OC Fair, and we are in the planning stages to make it successful. Peg Klinck has stepped down as the coordinator of this event, and we are in the process of finding volunteers to coordinate the event. This year, we will split the responsibilities and have an Administration Coordinator and a Volunteer Coordinator. Each will have teams reporting to them so it’s not one person doing the all work. Both coordinators must be detailed oriented, have excellent people skills, and available to work at the Fair during emergencies (short staffed).
We have had a meeting to establish timelines, candidate requirements, subcommittees, on-site responsibilities, and suggestions that may be implemented based on last year’s activities.
Richard Daugherty wrote a wonderful appeal for volunteers that I forwarded (with his permission) to the other Division Governors so we can get the word out.
At this point, we still need judges for outside contests, and volunteers to staff the OC Fair.
