My TV died last week. Not a loud and colorful death but one signaled by a quick "blip" and then it was gone...
I thought, "All right! The TV is dead! Now we can get on with life!"
My husband thought, "We've had this TV for over nine years and now visions
of HDTV, big screen, wide screen, flat screen and plasma screen fill my head.
Get the Best Buy catalog out 'cause here I come!"
It's funny how two people can look at the same situation and have completely opposite views on it. I guess it's the same way with Toastmasters Conferences.
Some think, "Wahoo, now I can learn how to get paid to be a speaker," and
jump in with both feet. They enjoy the speakers, they lap up the workshops,
they network and get enthusiastic about what they see and hear-and use the
information.
Others have excuses. "My club is dead or dying; do I care anymore? What difference does it make if I attend or not? Nobody's going to miss me."
But you were missed when you did not attend our recent Spring Conference on April 23. "It was one of the best District Conferences I've ever been to," said Norm Cook, our district governor.
We laughed until our sides split when our Communications and Leadership Award recipient, Craig Shoemaker spoke at our Hall of Fame lunch. Craig was honored for his work in the community, reaching out to others through communication, and his humor to help heal cancer patients. We learned how to laugh at a serious situation and about his love and caring for others.
Many conference comment cards said things like, "What amazing workshops! We learned so much and want more of this in the future."
That says it all, and we're going to give you "more." If you didn't
have a chance to attend the April Conference, put the next Conference on your
calendar now for Oct. 29, 2005. No excuses! Don't miss out! It's better than
watching TV anytime!
