Public Relations Contests

Public Relations Achievement Award

There were five entries for the Public Relations Achievement Award, which recognizes the Vice President of Public Relations (VPPR) accomplishments of promoting their clubs. The winner is Michael Varma, CTM, BergenMeisters Toastmasters/Club 7493; and the runner-up is Mark Abraham, DTM, Newport Center Toastmasters/Club 231. I give a special thank you to the five VPPRs who participated for setting the bar at their own clubs and stretching out of their comfort zones! Michael took his job as Vice President of Public Relations to a whole new level when he discovered that Toastmasters International (TI) did not have a template for the Toastmasters business cards shown in the Toastmaster magazine. He created a template, verified the colors, contacted TI to make sure his specs were correct, and then sent the template form to them so they could use it! You can find the business card template on our web site.

Diamond Web Award

We received 13 qualified entries for the Diamond Web Award for club web sites and I thank all the webmasters who participated in this contest. The winner is David Ehlen, Irvine Lunchtime Toastmasters/Club 219, the runner-up is Michael Varma.

This award was created to recognize the significance of the Internet as a communications tool. The Diamond Web Award recognizes the club webmasters who promote their club and Toastmasters on the web. Web sites were judged on the sites content and design, with the emphasis on quality of the content presented by the site.

Would you like some ideas to incorporate into your club's web site, or would you like to create a club web site and don't know what to put in it? We have the Districts top six web sites at www.foundersdistrict.org.
Congratulations to all the club public relations officers who are working hard to promote their members and Toastmasters to their communities.

OC Fair

Are you looking for a chance to meet new people, use your speaking skills, and attend a well-known event for free, including parking? This will be our third year involved in the Orange County Fair to be held July 8-31, and we can't do it without your help!

Anyone interested in volunteering to work, either setting-up the booth, assisting with decorations, working the booth, or anything else, please contact me at adyer@foundersdistrict.org.

If you're working on your Advanced Leader designation and need a project for your High Performance Leadership, you can volunteer to handle a particular part of the fair and use it for your project. If you are interested, contact me. In any case, for a couple of hours of your time, you get to spend all day at the Fair for free and not pay for parking! What a deal!
