High Performance Leadership:
Learn as You Go

by Lauren Kelley, DTM, PDG

Are you wondering what the High Performance Leadership is all about? You aren’t alone! I was in Toastmasters ten years before I bought the program so I could see for myself what it was.

Learn as You Go

There is a simple description for the HPL. It is a “learn as you go” program for leadership. The goal is to increase your leadership effectiveness, and the program is laid out in an easy-to-follow format. The treasure here is that you have a guidance committee—mentors who help you be successful every step of the way.

Guidance committee members should have some knowledge of the project you are doing. At least one person should be a Toastmaster. To help you, they need to be able to give you the time you need. You should also select people that you trust will provide honest feedback.

You Choose . . . Every Step of the Way

You decide what project you want to tackle. Your project can be almost anything as long as it is legal, ethical, and socially acceptable. There are many places in Toastmasters that lend itself to a project, such as putting on an Area or Division contest. Perhaps you can make an officer role into a project. You may want to tackle something at work, church, a professional organization, or another charity. The choice is yours. An important criteria, however, is that the project must require a team. You can’t do this alone.

Take a Giant Step in Leadership

The HPL is an excellent Toastmasters program that will help you take a giant step in leadership. The time and effort you will invest to be successful with the HPL will pay big dividends. Ready to get started? Order your program today, catalog no. 262, from Toastmasters International.
