Be a Judge...No experience required!
Toastmasters, we need your help! A local homeschool speech and debate league tournament is coming soon at... Concordia University in Irvine February 29 through March 3, 2012 Free refreshments and free reserved parking We are in need of people over 18 (must have graduated from high school) from varying backgrounds from our community, as well as friends and family, to come and help at the tournament. This is your opportunity to get a sense of what it feels to be a judge. And, the good news is...you don’t need to have any prior judging experience to participate (none!). You will be given a short orientation to help you fill out your ballots. There are over 2,000 judging slots. It’s fun and easy. The time requirement is approximately 2-1/2 hours, and we have slots available throughout the day or evening. In the past, Toastmasters helped judge speeches for over 500 students ages 12-18 that participate in a homeschool speech and debate league. The students practice weekly, and participate in tournaments throughout the year. >Events from which you can choose: Speech Events: Dramatic and humorous (which are like acting/story-telling), impromptu, extemporaneous (current events), apologetics, expository (using props), persuasive, and original speeches. Or you may want to choose to judge a debate: Team Policy Debate: Resolved: That the United States Federal Government should substantially reform its revenue generation policies. Lincoln Douglas Debate: Resolved: When in conflict, personal freedom ought to be valued above economic security. >How to register You can register for the day and time that best fits your schedule by going to our website at: http://concordiachallenge.homeschooldebate.net Once you are in the website, click “Judge Registration” at the top of the page and follow the instructions.
