Marian Left the World a Little Bit Better
Dedicated Toastmaster and past area governor, Marian Betterton, ACB, CL, passed away peacefully among her family on the morning of January 28, 2010, after a private battle with a cancerous brain tumor.
Marian Betterton was nominated as Division D Area Governor of the Year in 2008 – 2009 for her extraordinary efforts to bring Area D4 to Distinguished status. She often visited the clubs more than the required two times a year because she enjoyed helping other achieve their goals.
A constant advocate of the Toastmasters program, Marian started a city-wide membership drive in Orange placing posters wherever she could – in stores, libraries, and even in the famed downtown Watson’s Drugstore. Her goal was to increase membership for any nearby club.
Many folks remember Marian’s caring attitude as she completed her area governor duties and took on the additional tasks of sponsoring and mentoring a new club, The City of Orange Mighty Mouths, and sponsoring the OCTA Transit Talkers. She was a true servant leader.
“Marian taught me two important lessons:
1. Learn and practice the rules before attempting to “twist” them.
2. Follow your own Toastmasters journey and be the difference you want to see.”
~ Nadine Nofziger
“Marian had completed her life journey, so her spirit released itself from her ailing body and set her free. Let us remember her with joy and kindness and the gift of her presence with us.” expressed fellow Toastmaster member Anupama Desai, ATMG, CL.
Information regarding memorial services and in-kind donations will be posted as soon as received. Requests for details can be sent to the following address set-up by the family: inlovingmemoryofmarian@gmail.com.
