Division G Governor's Report - April 23, 2005
Richard Daugherty , DTM
Division G – The Golden Giants
Educational accomplishments
Division G is still on target to reach our year-end goals for CTMs and ATMs. Leadership goals continue to lag behind. More emphasis will be placed on bringing these numbers up by the end of the year.
Membership building status
Division G has now amassed a total of 167 new members since July 1 st, bringing us to 139% of our goal for the year. This injects needed new blood into our Clubs and is causing us to refocus our efforts on mentoring these brand new Toastmasters.
Club building status
(**Insert sound of skipping CD here**) Sole Technology in Lake Forest remains 1 paid membership short of charter strength. Barry Lynd, former Area Governor and current member of Unimasters, Club 9661, has signed on to be the Club’s mentor once they officially charter.
No activity has been seen recently regarding Pacific Life in Foothill Ranch. Our contact within the company continues to remain out of touch. Hopefully this will be corrected soon, and we can resume our pursuit of a Club at the company.
The contact information for both the Assistant Manager of Mall Marketing at Laguna Hills Mall and an HR representative within Oakley, Inc. in Foothill Ranch has been turned over to our District Lt. Governor of Marketing, Celly Adamo, for further prospecting efforts.
Former Toastmasters now affiliated with the Pacific Center for Positive Living in Lake Forest have requested assistance in forming a Club. Their contact information has been given to Celly Adamo for further action.
Contact names have been given to us within the South Orange County Regional Chambers of Commerce. We will be following up on these leads shortly.
Rescuing low-member clubs
Under the leadership of Area G5 Governor Michael Heath, and with additional strong support from District PRO Alanda Dyer, District Club Coach Co-Chair John Maginnis and past Division A Governor Mark Perew, Club 9317, Spectrum Speakers is making a strong comeback. They’ve signed up several new members, are keeping their meetings well-structured, and will be back to full strength very soon. Great work, team! Thank you so much for all of your efforts!
Club visits status
Three out of five Area Governors have completed and submitted their reports for April 2005, and the other two are rapidly finishing their reports. All reports will be submitted by the deadline of April 30 th.
Area & Division Council meetings
Monthly Division Council meetings continue to be well attended, and we’ve recently had visits from members who will be helping to lead the Division next year. Area Council meetings continue to be a struggle, with only Area G3 holding regular monthly meetings. A glance at the performance numbers for Area G3 confirms the positive effects of having these meetings. All Area Governors are regularly advised to hold monthly Council meetings, regardless of attendance size.
Problems/concerns
The Club at Leisure World in Laguna Woods has voted to cease operation as a Toastmasters Club, and is now meeting as an independent group geared for the special needs and abilities of Club members. Club VPE Bill Bergman has joined the Lake Forest Club in order to retain his connection with our organization. Several core members remain willing to make a go of the original Leisure World Club, and intend on reforming in the Fall when a new Clubhouse is finished. We’ve counseled them to seriously consider maintaining a minimum roster of paid members in order to remain in good standing with TI until such time as reformation is possible.
The Ziggurat Club in Aliso Viejo is undergoing an upheaval due to massive reorganization within the various governmental agencies housed in the complex. Several long-time strong leaders have been transferred away, and the Club is scrambling to rebuild with remaining members and potential new members from other areas both inside and outside the campus.
Quest Diagnostics (Nichols Institute) continues to struggle with one business crisis after another. The recent road closure of Ortega Highway forced them to postpone a SpeechCraft scheduled for February, and no new date has yet been set. Now, news reports indicate that a major improvement project along Ortega Highway has been approved, and is certain to once again disrupt their business, since a large percentage of their employees drive in from Lake Elsinore each day. We will continue to support them in any way that we can in spite of these challenges.
